The Battle of Versailles took place at the French Palace in November 1973. The event is said to have put "American designers and black models on the map." Ava DuVernay is co-writing the project, now in development, with Michael Starrbury (The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete). The project will be based on the 2015 book The Battle Of Versailles: The Night American Fashion Stumbled Into The Spotlight And Made History by fashion.
On the French side was Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, Emanuel Ungaro, Christian Dior and Hubert de Givenchy, while the American side included Oscar de la Renta, Stephen Burrows, Halson, Bill Blass and Anna Klein (who was accompanied by her assistant at the time, Donna Karan).
If that's not enough, celebs in attendance included Princess Grace, Andy Warhol and Liza Minnelli. Cannot wait to see and hear how the rest of this develops! Stay tuned for casting notices and more.
