Martin Scorsese and Chanel Kick It in Williamsburg

Last week Scorsese paid a visit to the Hewes Street stop of the JMZ train in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to be somewhat cinematic. Why? Well, we hear he's just finished filming a Chanel ad and I can't wait to check it out!

ps: If you haven't been following Conan lately, Scorsese is set to make an appearance tonight! Check it out.

pps: Have you seen the Chanel luxury surf board collection? I wouldn't dare surf on one, but I'd sure love it as a decorative piece.  The boards keep the classic Coco Chanel interlocking C's with a sporty twist. For us stateside folks, the boards are only available in Brazil, but we might be seeing them in the U.S soon! [Definitive Touch]

Bergdorf Goodman Wants You To Know The Secrets Behind Chanel

If you missed it over the weekend- the second floor at Bergdorf Goodman will feature "Secrets of the Chanel Jacket," an installation of archive jackets, handbags and accessories! "The exhibit tells the story of Mademoiselle Chanel's iconic creations, outlining the label's evolution from fluid jersey designs, to tweed and button and gold chain detailing." The installation aims to reveal the history behind the brand and draw a deeper connection between Coco and the way Karl Lagerfeld has beautifully expanded on her vision.

On display will be a photo exhibit of Coco Chanel, Vanessa Paradis, Romy Schneider, Anna Mouglalis and Barbie wearing the Chanel jacket, in addition to archive selections of shoes and handbags from Coco Chanel's personal collection. Visitors can also get a glimpse of the original 1957 two toned slingback heel in beige and black.

If interested, head on over there today because the exhibit ends This evening (October 19th).  Also through October 19, three of the department store's windows will house a Chanel tribute with oversized iconic items like the Chanel No. 5 bottle and the quilted jacket.

Fashionating: Madeleine Vionnet

"I only like decoration if it plays second to the architecture of a dress." - Medeleine Vionnet

Long before I was even a thought and Coco was Chanel- there was Madeleine Vionnet. At 12, she was married (whoa!) and at 18 left her native Paris & husband to work in the UK. Upon her return, she was hired to shake things up at the Jacques Doucet couture house, but was then suddenly asked to leave when she began removing boned corsets from dresses. She experimented with these new forms as a way to reinvent the way women covered their bodies. Her concepts channeled Grecian elegance and free flowing design. Vionnet created gowns that were not only comfortable, but also provided a pleasant silhouette- quite revolutionary for her time!

In honor of her designs- At last week’s haute couture shows 130 of her dresses were seen on display at at the Muséedes Arts Decoratifs. The two floor exhibition highlights her best work- if in Paris definitely check it out!

In the words of the late Madeleine Vionnet "Taste is the feeling that permits one to tell the difference between what is beautiful and what is merely spectacular"
