Sunday Times Kelis Feature

We love our dear Kelis! Her latest interview for the Sunday Times is just a glimpse into the busy life of this singer, mother and chef! (yes, she's a formally trained cook).

On Her Present Life:

“My mom always used to tell us, ‘Your twenties? Whatever. In your thirties you’ll be your most beautiful, your sexiest, your smartest.’ I’ve been through so many life changes getting here, it’s, like, she was right.” She describes Acapella as “a love song — ‘before you, my whole life was acapella’ — like, before you came I was singing alone, there was no music”, and says she wrote it for her son.

On Standing Up for Yourself and Moving On:

Kelis seems to embody the notion of the alpha female — a woman who isn’t afraid to voice her full rage, who is in control of her sexuality and who will file for divorce from her husband six months into her first pregnancy if those “differences” are “irreconcilable” enough. Her message has always been about standing up for yourself — now it appears to be about moving on. She says she doesn’t hold grudges. “I definitely get verbal and confrontational,” she says, “but once I get it out, I’m good. If life knocks you down, you just get up again. And again. And again.”

Effortless Style: Pink!

What I love best about this look is that she looks comfy yet hip! I heart perf leather... and this bomber is very cool! She looks edgy without looking too tough/mean. The soft makeup gives her the perfect balance!

New Music: Christina Aguilera "Light And Darkness"

If you know me well, then you know that I'm a HUGE Christina Aguilera fan. Most people are actually surprised by my level of fandom, but I think she has a beautiful voice!!! It has sucked watching other vocally challenged artists rise to their fame in the past year, so it was wonderful to hear that "Xtina" has been working on her "best album yet". Collaborators are said to include M.I.A., Flo Rida, Le Tigre and Santigold on 'Light and Darkness', which is being produced by Tricky Stewart, the mastermind behind Rihanna's'Umbrella' and Beyonce's 'Single Ladies'. Tricky said:

"It's just great. I wouldn't say that it's alternative, I wouldn't say that it's different. Christina's always been an artist that moves the bar and that's what the great ones do.

"They don't stay in the same place for too long and this album is just another move for her. I really feel it's one of her best bodies of work that I've heard since 'Stripped'."

The CD will be Christina's fourth studio album, and her first since 2006. But although the album is almost finished, it won't be released until next year because Christina is too busy working on new film 'Burlesque' with Cher!

"The album is finished. She's mixing. She hasn't made a final decision about what the first single is, but I know everyone feels good about their options."

I still play stripped on the reg. Yes, I'm serious. She even has a song on it called "Cruz"...c'mon!!!!

Are you a fan of Christina's work? If the answer is no, you  may want to reconsider answering...(I keed).

Mariah Carey "Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel"

(Mariah remakes the '97 cover of Butterfly)

I think it's fair to say that nobody plays the role of a wronged woman as well as Mariah! However, I'm not quite sure she successfully painted that picture in "Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel." I had an opportunity to preview the album a few weeks ago and overall, it left me feeling kind of...empty?!  Memoirs opens up with "Betcha Gon' Know," which I actually like, but then it's quickly followed by tracks that seem dated and uninspired. It just doesn't have the same magic that I felt on Emancipation of Mimi! I was actually more amused thinking about the evolution of her "look"...isn't it amazing that as the years go by, her waist gets smaller and her boobs get bigger? Must be nice.  Take  A Look!
